There are many types of drinking water filters on the market today. There is constant research and development into inventing new filters and improving old types.

But which is the best? People often feel overwhelmed when shopping for a drinking water filter due to the sheer number of varieties and price range of those that are available.

When buying a drinking water filter, the first factor you need to consider is cost. Not everyone wants to spend a fortune, and for home personal use you may have a set budget. This is fine, as there is always a drinking water filter that will fit into your cost requirements.

Some of the different types of drinking water filter include charcoal filters, water distillers, reverse osmosis, ultraviolet light filters, magnetic water filters, ionized water filters, infra red filters and many more. There is of course plain old bottled water.

Carbon Water Filters

Carbon filters are a simple and effective drinking water filter and are the most popular domestic drinking water filter.

They are quite cheap and simple to install which also keeps costs down. The medium in the charcoal water filter filters out impurities from the water. They filter out most deadly contaminants including Guardia and Cryptosporidium.

95% of houses which use a water filter are using a carbon filter, so they are certainly extremely popular.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis pushes the water through a membrane. The water that makes it through this membrane is purified and becomes the drinking water. The water that the membrane stops goes through a tube. Obviously this method can waste quite a bit of water as the membrane catches some of it. Reverse osmosis is a slow drinking water filter method, but is one of the most effective.

If you can sacrifice speed for quality, you can not go wrong with a reverse osmosis system.

Here I have outline but two of the many types of drinking water filters on the market. It is your choice which one you choose, but the two I have mentioned here have the benefit of either being one of the most affordable (charcoal) or most effective (reverse osmosis).
